Course Learning Outcome #3

CLO #3: Negotiate your own writing goals and audience expectations regarding conventions of the genre, medium, and rhetorical situation

My goal for this class was to understand scientific writing as a genre so that my writing could be compatible with that level of research. However, now that I actually took the class, my goals have changed. Now that I understand the various genres of scientific writing as well as the most effective mediums for each, I want to use this ability to reach people for good. I believe that activism is nothing without a deep understanding of the audience you’re reaching’s needs: now that I have been taught rhetorical skills of this specific genre, I want to now integrate a deeper understanding of the audiences I am trying to reach.

For example, in this slideshow, I knew that people who are uninterested in alternative farming would rather look at a colorful presentation than a long paper. In this way, I was able to properly combine media, genre, and rhetoric.
